A Drinking club with a running problem!
What is the Red Dress Run?:
The 2008 Red Dress Run Charity was:
The Edmonton and Northern Alberta Chapter
In the digestive tract, CF makes it extremely difficult to digest and absorb adequate nutrients from food. Thick mucus blocks the ducts of the pancreas, preventing enzymes from reaching the intestines to digest food. Therefore, persons with CF must consume a large number of artificial enzymes (on average 20 pills a day) with every meal and snack, to help them absorb adequate nutrition from their food.
It is estimated that one in every 3,600 children born in Canada has CF.
At the present time, approximately 3,500 children, adolescents, and adults with cystic fibrosis attend specialized CF clinics.
The CF Edmonton and Northern Alberta chapter is based on fundraising in the community. They have built a center of excellence for cystic fibrosis care and treatment in Edmonton. Thanks to advances in reasearch and treatment, life expectancy of persons with CF has increased over the past few decades from 22 to 37 years of age. Funds raised from the Red Dress Run 2008 will be used to enhance the care and treatment of persons with CF in Edmonton and its surrounding areas.
May is Cystic fibrosis month. The RDR committee invites all hashers to help give "the breath of life" to persons with cystic fibrosis by supporting the Red Dress Run on May 10th.
